How Our AI Analysis Works
Our evaluation process combines automated web crawling with advanced AI analysis to provide comprehensive assessments across all our tools:
Step 1: Automated discovery of relevant pages (privacy policies, terms of service, about pages, documentation)
Step 2: Content extraction and analysis using natural language processing
Step 3: AI-powered evaluation against our comprehensive framework (ethics, compliance, or trustworthiness)
Step 4: Generation of scores (1-10) with detailed reasoning for each evaluation dimension
Step 5: Presentation of results with actionable insights and compliance recommendations
Understanding the EU AI Act
The European Union Artificial Intelligence Act is the world's first comprehensive AI regulation, establishing a risk-based approach to AI governance. Our EU AI Act Checker evaluates systems across key regulatory areas:
Prohibited Practices
Systems banned under Article 5, including subliminal manipulation, social scoring, and certain biometric uses in public spaces.
High-Risk Systems
AI systems in critical areas like healthcare, finance, law enforcement, and education requiring strict compliance measures.
Transparency Requirements
Obligations to inform users when interacting with AI systems and provide clear documentation of capabilities.
GPAI Models
Special obligations for General Purpose AI models, including foundation models with systemic risk thresholds.
The Act defines specific roles and obligations for AI ecosystem participants, including Providers (who develop AI systems), Deployers (who use them), Importers, Distributors, and Authorized Representatives, each with distinct compliance requirements.
Our Evaluation Framework
We evaluate websites and AI systems across multiple ethical and regulatory dimensions:
Transparency & Accountability
This dimension evaluates how open and accountable a website or AI system is about its operations, ownership, and practices.
- Clear identification of owners and operators
- Accessible and understandable terms of service
- Easy-to-find privacy policies
- Multiple contact methods and responsive support
- Clear explanation of services and business model
- AI system documentation and explainability
Data Protection & User Control
This dimension assesses how well a website or AI system protects user privacy and gives users control over their personal data.
- Minimal and justified data collection
- Clear consent mechanisms for data processing
- User control over privacy settings
- Limited use of tracking technologies
- Compliance with privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Secure data handling and storage practices
- Data governance for AI training and operation
Energy Consumption & Environmental Impact
This dimension evaluates the environmental responsibility of digital services and AI systems and their carbon footprint.
- Optimized website performance and loading speed
- Efficient code and minimal resource usage
- Use of renewable energy for hosting and computation
- Green hosting providers and data centers
- Sustainable web design practices
- AI model efficiency and computational sustainability
- Public commitments to environmental responsibility
Why Digital Ethics Matter
In our interconnected digital world, ethical practices by websites and online services have far-reaching implications:
User Rights
Protecting individual privacy, data ownership, and digital autonomy in an increasingly connected world.
Environmental Impact
The internet accounts for approximately 4% of global carbon emissions, making sustainable web practices crucial.
Trust and Accountability
Building transparent relationships between digital services and users promotes trust and responsible innovation.
Informed Choices
Empowering users with knowledge to make informed decisions about the digital services they choose to use.
Our Commitment to Ethical Technology
We practice what we evaluate. Our own platform is built with ethical principles at its core:
- Open and transparent about our processes
- Optimized for minimal environmental impact
- Accessible pricing with free trial options
Our Promise: We will never compromise on the ethical standards we evaluate others by. Transparency, privacy, and sustainability are not just metrics we measure—they are principles we live by.
Using Renewable Energy
Powered by Clean Energy
Environmental responsibility drives our hosting choices. We power our web servers exclusively with renewable energy, taking advantage of Iceland's abundant natural resources. By harnessing geothermal and hydroelectric power at our Icelandic data center, we minimize our environmental footprint while maintaining reliable service delivery.
EU AI Act Compliance: Our Voluntary Code of Conduct
In accordance with Article 95 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, we have voluntarily adopted a comprehensive code of conduct that applies the high-risk AI system requirements from Title III, Chapter 2 to our AI-powered website evaluation platform. This demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards of AI governance and regulatory compliance.
Voluntary Code of Conduct Framework
This code voluntarily implements requirements typically reserved for high-risk AI systems, going beyond our legal obligations to ensure the highest standards of AI transparency, accountability, and safety.
